No need to try to shut the door behind you while you have your arms full anymore. Watch this DIY Self Closing Door Hinge Installation and Operation Instructional Tutorial and put one in yourself. It's easy. I'll post a link to some below. Simply remove the middle existing hinge on the door (leaving the upper and lower one in place) and install the self closing door hinge in it's place. It's easiest if you use a cordless drill for the hinge fasteners but not mandatory. You could do this with a regular handheld manual screwdriver. You will need the correct size Allen (hex head) wrench for the internal set screw to set the tension on the hinge. Some of the hinges will come with the correct size Allen wrench to use. You tighten the Allen screw inside the hinge to set the tension of the hinge on desired self-closing strength. You can always adjust it later if you find you don't like your settings.

How to Unclog a Kitchen Sink Drain in Singapore | No P-trap Under Sink

The Singapore under sink plumbing set up is different than what I've seen in the states for the most part. This set up is pretty nice in many ways but also seems to clog up more frequently than most of the standard US p-traps I'm used to dealing with. This is really nice in the sense that when it does clog up you just put your water catch basin under the sink and unscrew the receptacle, dump it out, and screw it back on. Really a great set up if you ask me. The problem I saw was that it leaked no matter how tight I tightened it by hand once it was full of food waste debris.

I'm reposting this video after having found it in my archives. I had deleted it from an earlier youtube endeavor a few years back. The idea of a Swedish torch itself was not mine, however, after watching some videos on it back in the day I figured I'd make my own version using my trusty Stihl chainsaw. These are a lot of fun to make and burn for a solid couple of hours + depending on what kind of wood you are burning. This was just a round of fir but I could only imagine how much burning time you would get out of a round of a hardwood like oak or even madrone (I call them madrona).  You can use a chainsaw but you could also use a bucksaw or handsaw to make one. You could do this camping or if you are able to, in your back yard.

Cooked these tasty slabs at for a few different time frames as there were three different requests, one barely cooked (a lot of red inside), one medium and the other well done. I grilled these up with a little bit of Johnny's on each side. They turned out delicious. I did cut the fat off a little on two steaks(per request), and the left it on the third. In my "SODASTREAM: How to Change Out a Soda Stream CO2 Bottle-Demonstration and Explanation" video I show you the basic step by step method (tutorial) on how to change out your gas bottle inside the bubbly water dispenser. The steps are as follows:



1. Remove plastic wrapping around the neck of new bottle and plastic cap

2. Open sodastream dispenser from the back by pulling back and up on removable back panel

3. Unthread old bottle by turning to the left

4. Lift up on soda stream dispenser (and remove) leaving bottle flat on counter

5. Place new bottle in it's place flat on counter

6. Set soda stream dispenser back down on new bottle

7. Thread new bottle into dispenser

8. Replace rear removable panel (bottom in first, then snap upper part into/onto dispenser)



Pop your soda stream plastic bottle (filled to the line with fresh cold filtered water) into the dispenser and push button on top three times for about 1 second each push or just hold for 3 to 4 seconds.



Pull carbonated bottle out by bringing the bottom part of the bottle out utilizing the soda stream dispenser's lever system. Now it's ready to fill the next bottle. Enjoy.

Have you had hip or back surgery? Maybe you just can't bend over for whatever reason. This DIY Homemade Sock Installation Device is a cheap and easy way to put on your own socks without having to bend over. It's really simple and can be made with some PVC pipe and two pieces of rope. For tools I used a hacksaw, and handheld grinder, and a file. This is really nice if you have fused vertabra, lower back injury, disability, hip surgery, etc and cannot physically bend over to put your socks on and can be done from the sitting upright position with ease. I made this one in particular for a friend of mine who had hip surgery and he thanked me greatly saying it saved him from having someone else having to put his socks on for him. This is a great gift for someone in need of such a device and can be made for super cheap.

Ordered my Northern Brewer Bavarian Hefeweizen home brew kit from amazon. I'll post the link below This turned out really nice and was super easy to make. The kit comes with a nice set of directions. I used my Cooper's DIY Beer fermenter once the boiling and cooling processes were done.



The steps are super simple simple:



1. In your brewpot, bring 2.5 gallons filtered water to a boil

2. Add half of the wheat malt syrup (approx. half of 6lb. container)

3. Remove from heat and stir it in

4. You now have wort. Bring it to a boil again

5. Add the 1oz of German Tettnang hops and boil for 60 minutes

6. Add the remainder of the 3lbs of wheat malt syrup and add the 1lb of dry malt extract

7. Cool the wort.

8. Once cool, (siphon) add wort to fermenter leaving sludge at bottom

9. Fill remainder of fermenter (to 5 gallon mark) with water

10. Pitch yeast and add to wort once temp is 78F or lower (not warm to touch)

11. Let sit in fermenter for 2 weeks then bottle using priming sugar or carbonation drops

12. Let sit in bottle for 3-4 weeks.

13. Refrigerate for 1 day and then enjoy.

DIY How to Sweep out Your Chimney-DIY Woodstove Stovepipe Creosote Build...

Check out my video on How to Sweep out Your Chimney-DIY tutorial-Instructional "how to" style video with detailed step by step procedural instructions for maximum effective results in cleaning out your chimney. Performing this once a year (minimum) will prevent creosote build up.The first thing I did was grab a chimney sweeping brush. Each section can be assembled and disassembled easily which allows for you to sweep the entire length of your chimney. I recommend you use some kind of fall protection device (fall gear) before attempting to climb on your roof and sweep out your chimney. My roof has pitch that is friendly to where if I did slip and fall I wouldn't go over the edge. Next I popped the top cap off the stove pipe by slowly working it off. I took that and cleaned it out really well too. Then I inserted the first sections of the chimney sweeping brush down into the bore and worked it back and forth removing any creosote along the way. Started adding lengths of each section and repeated this process until I bottomed out. if you have a horoscope camera it would prove to be extremely helpful in doing the inspection of the inner bore of the stove pipe as you could identify any weak or wearing spots within the bore that you can't see from the top or bottom. Do as much of a visual inspection as you can while you are performing this. Pretty simple job but can be dangerous if you don't take the proper safety precautions. This is a great summertime job to do. This is the logical time to do it as the roof is less likely to be slippery and you are mostly done making fires for a couple months.

The body came from some old wrought iron fence pickets from a fence I helped a neighbor up the street tear down in exchange for the metal and a sweet gate (which I refurbished and sold). The spurs were made from car gears. The cowboy hat I made from an old shoe saver as well. The guns were little mini railroad spikes someone gave me. The rope and lasso I made from old chainsaw chain by welding each link together.

We had a great day out at the lake catching crawdads. We used a combination of methods. We used the primitive method of diving down under water, flipping over the rocks and grabbing them. We also used a home made crawdad trap.

They turned out really good.
Step 1: Bring pot of water to a boil and add Johnny's Seasoning and some Old Bay
Step 2: The crawdads will turn orange
Step 3: Boil for about 5 to 10 minutes
Step 4: Remove from heat and cool. Run under cold water (optional)
Step 5: Melt some butter with garlic. Serve it up at enjoy!

Extra care must be taken with regards to safety when using this method as the clothing item could easy get wrapped around the grinder and you could lose a finger or a hand. I have a chainlink fence up one side and a cedar fence perpendicular to it. I had to tie the two in together at the corner. My Schwinn Brand Bicycle front mounted basket has gotten a ton of use and has had the weight limit put to the test many times. It's been a good basket, hauled many things, survived and accident, been left in the rain and left in the glaring sun. It got abused so much so that it rusted a little and broke.
I couldn't see tossing it out over some normal aging, so it seemed like a good idea just to repair it. I used some Belzona, which is a two part epoxy to patch it up. I gave it overnight to dry and then painted it the next day.

Follow along step by step during the video.  DIY Home Brew | English Brown Ale | Craft Beer Recipe Kit | Brewing to Taste Test. This turned out really good and got better after 3 to 4 weeks.
The first step was pouring about 2.5 to 3 gallons of filtered water into my brewpot. This brew kit came with grains to steep and make the wort as well as liquid malt extract and dried malt extract. The grains must be steeped in the brewpot. Once you steep them, much like tea, don't squeeze the grain bag after steeping, rather just let it drain. This is what make the wonderful wort. Now bring the wort to a rolling boil and add the liquid malt extract, the aromatic hops and the dried malt extract. Boil it for around and hour then cool it down as quickly in an ice bath or use a wort chiller. Once cooled down I then added the wort to my fermenter and added filtered water to the 23L mark. I then added the yeast. Once the yeast is added the brewing is complete. Now I let it ferment for 2 weeks. Once the 2 weeks was up I bottled it. I mixed and added priming sugar to the fermented brew right before bottling. After bottling I let it sit in the bottle for minimum of two weeks. Before partaking, I placed in the refrigerator to chill.

Making your own beer gives you a deeper appreciation for it. You realize what goes into making it and the ingredients involved. You can have this brewed on your brew day in less than two hours. I left it in the fermenter for two weeks, then two more weeks after bottling.

DIY Home Brew: Northern Brewer | Dead Ringer India Pale Ale Kit

I ordered this awesome beer kit from amazon. In this DIY Home Brew: Northern Brewer | Dead Ringer India Pale Ale Kit video, I take you step by step through unboxing, brewing and taste testing. This was ready to drink in just over a month. The first thing I did was heat approx 2.5 gallons of filtered water to 155F or approx 68F. Then take the provided grains, pour them into the grain bag, tie off the grain bag and place it into the water once it reaches temp. Maintain that temperature, no higher and no lower (plus or minus a couple degrees), and let it steep for 20 to 30 minutes. Once 20 to 30 minutes has elapsed, pull out the grain bag and let drain over the newly created wort. Don't squeeze it. Then it's time to bring the wort to a slow rolling boil. Total boiling time will be 60 minutes. Once boiling add the liquid malt extract. and stir in well. While it's boiling I added cool filtered water to the fermenter. I then added hops at 10 minutes time intervals and stirred them in. Once 60 minutes in complete I transferred the wort immediately to an ice bath. Once completely cooled I transferred (siphoned) the wort to the fermenter and topped it off with some additional filtered water. I then added the yeast and shook it around a little. Then I installed the air lock and let the brew sit for a couple weeks in a dark area. After a couple weeks I transferred it to a separate fermenter that was actually only used as a bottle filler and then mixed and added some hops and the priming sugar solution to give the brew carbonation. I then bottled it and let it sit for a couple weeks before sampling.

Keep that dirty pool clean following these steps in my DIY How to Easily Clean Your Wal-Mart Pool with Garden Hose & Water Vacuum Attachment video. This pool was a great purchase from Wal-Mart as I used it for 4 or 5 years. Honestly, I figured it would be a typical 1 season then toss it type of deal so I was impressed by how long it lasted. I actually was able to sell it for about 50 bucks. They are nice because they come with patch kits and cleaning accessories that you can really use. I never did have to patch it but once the hot season was over I made sure to clean it out well before storing, then stored it on a pallet fastened down with some rope and took apart all of the electrical and plumbing components and made sure they were stored in a dry place and kept segregated so I knew how to assemble it the following year. I recommend either setting this up on grass and/or a layer of sand underneath. Any rocks or jagged edges will be felt along the bottom once the weight of the water takes it's effect on the bottom.
Cleaning this pool is really easy and they made a nice attachment to hook up to your garden hose. It's the vacuum looking accessory. You thread in your garden hose and then tie the white filter bag around the exit port. I found it helpful to use extra banding to hold the bag on. You can use zip ties, rubber bands, hair ties, etc to do this. This will make sure the bag will stay on and withstand the pressure of the garden hose. It works well. You just run this thing along the bottom of the pool and once the bag gets filled up you secure the water and dump the bag out and repeat. The more you do this the better because if you wait too long to clean your pool the longer it takes to clean. If you have trees around those leaves and pine needles love to land in your pool. The screen with the pole attachment works well too especially for insect removal. The bees and insects love to land in the pool as well so this is a great accessory. Happy swimming and cleaning.

In order to safely change a tire you'll need a tire iron and a jack. It is best to use a jack stand as well in case your jack fails. Many people get crushed every year by relying on their jack alone. If you absolutely must not use a jack stand than take all precautions to anticipate the vehicle coming down and the jack failing. This means keeping your body and all body parts out of the way between any part of the vehicle and the ground.
The first step is to make sure the vehicle is on flat ground. To be super safe place two wheel chocks on both sides of any wheel that is not to be changed out. Loosen the lug nuts (with the lug wrench) on the wheel before jacking it up. Then jack up the vehicle with a jack using part of the vehicle's frame as closest to the wheel/tire you are changing out treating the situation as if the jack will fail, slide the jack stand under the frame so it's snug and will hold if the jack should fail. Finish loosening the lug nuts on the wheel and remove them and set the aside. Remove the wheel and plug the spare on. Hand tighten the lug nuts on the new wheel getting them as hand tight as possible in a star pattern. Carefully remove the jack stand and lower the jack. Now tighten the lug nuts in a star pattern. If you used wheel chocks remove those now. Drive slowly to the nearest tire service station to get your tire repaired as soon as possible. Don't drive on the spare for longer than necessary as it is only made to be used as a temporary crutch.

In this DIY How to Remove and Clean Clothes Dryer Vent Ducting for Fire Prevention Video I take you step by step through this simple yet necessary process. Many fires are started every year from lack of cleaning of dryer vent ducts. Once this method and processed is used, your ducting will be just like new. The first thing to do is remove and replace the slinky looking  aluminum vent that connects the dryer to the hard vent. This is usually accomplished by the loosening and removal of the large hose clamp, typically a flathead fastener.

Once I got this old dryer vent removed I used my shop vac and got the big stuff out. If you are not planning on disassembling the whole thing you need to be able to have enough shop vac hose to reach the full length of the whole vent run or at least enough so that you can reach the remaining distance from the outside or opposite side. In the case in the video I decided to remove the whole thing and actually replace the old vent with brand new stuff. The existing was at least 20 years old and was corroded, old and sagging. If you wanted to re-use the existing vent ducting and remove it for cleaning, bring it outside and blow it out with an air compressor. There is a good chance you'll still have some scum that won't readily blow out with an air compressor so you'll need to figure out how to manually remove it. Many times this can be done with a rag or some type of cleaning brush. If you don't remove the old scum and reinstall it, it will be a starting point for new dryer vent bi-products to accumulate reducing the time that you'll need to clean it out again. When reinstalling be sure that the seams are facing the direction of flow so it won't be a sticking point for debris to collect. Once you get your vent ducting run all cleaned out and re-assembled it will give you piece of mind that you've reduced the chances of a dryer vent duct fire.

DIY How to Install Pre-Fabricated Deck Railing and Posts Quickly

This pre-fabricated deck railing set up was purchased at Lowe's. It was a little more than I wanted to pay and wasn't completely top quality but it was able to be constructed quickly and effectively fit the billet of having a deck rail in place on this second story outside deck. The reason I needed a new deck was because the old one had been attacked by carpenter ants in many places so after exterminating all of the carpenter ants I removed the old deck. It made for some good dry backyard bonfire wood. I then took perimeter measurements and figured out how much deck rail I would need. This pre-fabbed railing was a little more than I really wanted to pay so I didn't want to overestimate. I got my materials home and then kind of layer it out to so I could get a visual on how it went together. The first step in construction was to install the 4 X4 posts. I secured them to the outside of the deck with lag bolts, of course, pre-drilling them before sinking the lag bolt in. Since I was a one man show I was able to clamp them into place before permanently securing them. I used two lag bolts per post. Same goes for the rails. I roughly fit them up before  securing them. Pre-drilled the holes then used weather proof drywall screws to hold them in. I pre-drilled the holes using a bit slightly smaller than the screw itself. Since each rail section was a set length I ended up having to trim a little off of one. I measured twice to make sure I had the correct length. I used my hand held power saw to whack the extra part off. Overall this deck rail was super easy to install and had it done in just a few hours as I took my time installing it. The pro's are that is was quick to install, it looked attractive and matched the design of the house, was plenty sturdy (sturdy enough to lean against), the wood was already pre-stained,  and was very simple to install by myself. The only negatives were that I wish the wood was a little thicker on the rails themselves and the other is that this set up wasn't conducive to a simple gutter system if you wanted to put one on.

DIY Home Brew: Morgans Hazy Mosaic Centennial IPA-Brewing, Bottling and ...

For this delicious home brew I used liquid malt extract made by Morgan's (Frontier IPA) and dry spray malt hopped light. This sucker turned out wonderful. I used Centennial and Mosaic hops. No boiling was involved or needed at all in this brewing session. The hopping technique was dry hopping. I just simply mixed the ingredients in the fermenter along with some hot filtered water (and cold) and dry hopped the two different hops mixed into one bag. Then used the brewers yeast that came with the Morgans liquid malt extract. I made sure to add the yeast when the wort was at correct temperature. I placed the top on and waited for two weeks. Two weeks later I bottled it. Was ready to drink two weeks after that. This was a no brainer tasty  beer project. Great fun and rewarding hobby. I just use my Cooper's DIY beer kit I got off amazon. SAMSUNG Brand Dryer with Steam Option-Installation Tutorial Demonstratio...

This SAMSUNG Brand Dryer with the Steam Option is a great dryer and was purchased at Lowe's. While at the store be sure to purchase the correct dryer cord and the installation kit. These don't come with the purchase and need to be bought separately. Buy some teflon tape as well. No need to pay someone to do this as it's super easy to do yourself. The first step is getting it unboxed, into your house and into place. You'll typically need two people or a dolly. If you are really fancy you can put in on a custom made wooden foundation to place it on. Once in place, open up the installation kit and pull out the hoses and components. Hook a stainless steel braided hose to the cold spigot after wrapping with teflon tape. I tightened down the connection using channel locks. From that hose I installed the 'Y' connector provided in the installation kit. From that 'Y' on the cold line, one side is going to go to your dryer and the other to your dryer. All connections made with teflon tape to keep from leaking. Now take the longer hose with the 90 degree elbow on it and hook it to your dryer. The elbow side is what connects to the dryer. From the "Y' connector on the cold line, hook a hose from the 'Y' to your washer for cold water to the washer.

Now it's time to hook up the electrical portion. It's a good idea to take a picture or template of some sort with you of your dryer plug to the hardware store to make sure you buy the correct plug pattern unless you retained your old one and it's still serviceable.

So now that you have your water system all hooked up it's time for the electrical and vent which is really easy as well. Un-package your new dryer hose and hook up the three wires in the back of the dryer. You do this by unscrewing the sheet metal panel in the back. Hook the cord to the three terminals inside the panel and secure it. Be sure to install your safety clamp as a protective measure in case the dryer gets moved, it won't destructively pull the cord's electrical connections from the terminals resulting in a possible electrical fire. Now it's time for the vent. Fasten the dryer vent over the hard piped vent connection along with the hose clamp and fasten. Do the same with the connection as the dryer.

DIY How to Replace Kitchen Sink Faucet Spout Filter (Aerator)-Make New A...

Kitchen sink spout spraying all over? Not getting enough water flow from the sink faucet? It's likely the faucet spout filter is clogged. In this tutorial I show you the simple process for accomplishing just that. I didn't realize it until I removed the old one that it needed to be replaced with a new one. This won't be the case all the time as you may just be able to clean the old one off of sediment, plastic, etc and reinstall it. In my case, the filter was damaged therefore not doing it's job. I do filter all of the water but this screen holds back the big particulates. I couldn't believe how much crap had built up on my filter. I'm surprised it flowed as well as it did. Amazing how much stuff is in our water. Changing this thing out is simple. Mine takes a 22mm wrench. Take the 22mm wrench (or vice grips if you don't care about the finish) and turn it counter clockwise to loosen. Once off, clean it all off and inspect for damage. If damaged, then replace. If still good, reinstall. The screen that I removed did not have a gasket but luckily the new one came with a gasket. If you are going to get a new one I recommend you take the old one to the hardware store with you to match it up. Pull it out of the package in the store and be sure it's the correct size and thread pitch. There is not a huge risk here for the most part as many of them are standard size. I believe the technical name for these is a sink faucet aerator.

DIY How to Install a Window Air Conditioning Unit-Wal-Mart A/C Unit

Purchased this air conditioning unit from Wal-Mart a number of years ago and used this same insertion and removal method every year as this was a seasonal window unit only installed for a couple months out of the year. Once I had this system down I could have it put installed in less than 5 minutes. First step is to take the window out and place in a safe spot for a couple months. The window removal here demonstrates the slider type where all you need to do is slide it to the left a little, push it up into the groove, and pull it up and out over the lip. Lift the air conditioner up and set it into the groove. Be absolutely sure you don't drop out the window and be sure nobody is below you before you start this. You also want to make sure you have a way to secure this once I the window. Safety brackets should be installed to keep it from dropping. Before you go buy one at the store be sure you take the height and width of your window to make sure the unit will fit. They are great to have in the summer time when it's roasting. You'll be glad you put one in. They are fairly affordable now. I'll post a link to one below and you can just order it.

DIY How to Make Green Eggs and Ham-Dr. Suess Style

Merry Xmas everyone! Dr. Suess' green eggs and ham is a fun project to make with and or for the kids. Cooking can be fun and this is something you can involve your family with having the little ones help out or even just surprise them. A little green food coloring mixed in with the deviled eggs. Tasty treat.

Along these same lines, something I always liked to do was to make "Martian Oatmeal". This keeps it a little healthier although I know that food coloring is not the best for you, you can get the kids' imagination going by adding a tiny dab of green food coloring to it. Green eggs and ham is also Keto diet friendly if that's your thing. I cooked the ham slices up in the Phillips air fryer for quick results.

DIY Welding Project-Machete from Mower Blade Tutorial

This was a fun little welding fabrication project. I found myself with a stack of old steel thick lawnmower blades. I thought what a better idea than to make a homemade machete with them. I used full penetration weld joints. "V" groove joint design both side. I gouged out the opposite side until I got down to clean sound metal, then welded it up. The trick here was to watch my distortion. So rather than weld one side all the way out I welded each side just below flush and then put the covers on it. Once I welded it out I ground the welds so that they were ground flush and indistinguishable from the base metal. I then marked out a radius for the blade and then a cut out portion for the handle. I then used my hand held electric angle grinder with a cutting wheel to complete the cuts. I honed the blade with a flapper wheel. I then used some wrapped twine for a handle. This was the first of it's kind that I made.

A reciprocating saw is a wonderful tool and I've used them for thousands of handyman DIY construction and repair tasks over the years. This is a must-have for the power tool collection. Even though to many, it may be blatantly obvious how to change out a blade, it may not be to others or beginners. The first thing, like any other power tool blade or wheel change out operation, unplug the damn thing. I've seen a lot of injuries and almost got a few myself for being stupid or careless and not taking the simple step of unplugging the tool before changing out the blade, wheel, or bit. Once unplugged, you'll need an Allen wrench that fits the Allen head set screw in the reciprocating head. Typically these come with one but many of us lose these things. Loosen the set screw and the blade will come out. Many new models of reciprocating saws have quick disconnect style fittings on them so no wrench may be necessary depending on the model you have. Grab your fresh blade and place it back into the same position and insert it into the slot. Then tighten the Allen head set screw. You are now good to go.

DIY Shotgun Shell Coat Rack Made From Repurposed Antique Boat House Wood...

In this Do it yourself 12 gauge shotgun shell mounted coat rack made from old torn down boat house wood and spent shotgun shell I show you step by step on how to make this cool arts and crafts project. This is a great addition to your home, cabin, or shop. You don't necessarily have to use old wood even though it does add to the cool factor. Just get a piece of cedar or any piece of wood and template out your holes to drill with the spent shotgun rounds. When I did this I measure to find the centerline of the pieces I used so all of the holes lined up right. If you want to offset them as I did in a couple of the racks, just measure out two horizontal lines evenly spaced. Once I figured out where I wanted to drill the holes I did just that. I used an auger bit because that was the size that I had in my toolbox that matched just a gnats ass over the shotgun shell diameter so it would fit in there nice and snug. For visual effect I used a heat gun and gave it a burnt look. I inserted the shells into the holes and used a brad nailer to secure them to the piece of wood. You could also use some epoxy. Now it's ready to mount to the wall.

To satisfy curiosity I completed this total disassembly of a Phillips Brand Airfryer. This is actually pretty tough to get apart so I had to destructively rip much of it apart. I must say that we use our Phillips Airfryer regularly for almost all types of foods and I would highly recommend this to anyone.



The power function still worked on this thing but it was very well used and caked with years charred food remnant. It was time to see inside one of these.

The main parts of this things is the cooking (heating) element, the oven portion, and the fan. There are some supporting elements of this such as LED lights and a timer. It's a slick unit. No wonder they sell so many of these because they do work very well.

In this DIY Homemade Pallet Firewood Wood Storage Bin-Repurposed Pallet Wood video I demonstrate how to simply construct a useful and practical all weather log seasoning rack. Since I used so many pallet slats for other projects I had many of the big pallet cross member pieces left over. Typically I would slice them up into burnable pieces and use them for getting my fire started as they are great for this. In this case I needed racks in which to store all of my firewood so these were just what I needed. So I started sorting them out and getting 4 that were nearly identical to start out with and then of course pulling the nails out of pounding them in. In some cases I had to knock them off to the side and pound them flush. The reason to start out with 4 that are identical is so the sides will be close to equal height. For the bottom all you'll need is two that are nearly identical. The top is less important as long as you have pieces that are long enough as you can trim the top or even use slats if you have long enough ones. As far as the nails go, whenever I pulled them I tried to staighten them if needed and save them for future use. In this case I was able to reuse them for building these things. After sorting the pieces I laid them out on the ground in a "U" shape making two identical parts right next to each other. The bottom portion of the "U" gets nailed together to the side pieces. Once the two identical parts are constructed I stacked them on top of one another. I then used some pallet slats as securing pieces to hold the two modules together. After standing the pieces upright I completed the square by nailing the top portion on. This adds strength to the side pieces when storing firewood and also adds to the visual appeal. These are nice to make because they are free and also you can make as many as you want and stack them next to each other in a nice organized fashion without the fear of your firewood falling over. It also makes it easier to secure a tarp to it if you need to keep it dry.

DIY How to Install a Kwikset Door Handle and Deadbolt: Gatehouse Metal H...

The above step by step tutorial is a Kwikset Brand keyed entry door knob and deadbolt installation into a newly installed home security door. This door knob and deadbolt set was purchased at Lowe's Home Hardware Store. I have been pleased with the ease of installation of Kwikset brand door knobs and deadbolts. I've used them quite a lot over the years for various door installations.

The question many people have is "Can this kwikset door knob be used on metal security doors?" or "Can a kwikset doorknob that I purchased from Lowe's that would normally be used on a wood door be used on a Gatehouse Brand metal security door?".  First of all the answer is most definitely as I have installed numerous metal security doors during work as a handyman. The gatehouse brand door is nice because it's cheap, easy to install, and effective. Kwikset door handle and deadbolt combination kits are great and can be purchased at an affordable price. In this video I cut open the packaging with some scissors and pulled out the door knob and deadbolt set I need. I was doing a couple different doors this day so the combination pack was perfect. The next thing I did was insert the latch into the door intel for a loose test fit. The nice thing about it is that the threads and holes for the assembling screws are pre-drilled and tapped to standard sizes making for an easy installation. The next part is to install the inside and outside handle portion. To do this the handles need to be in the unlocked position. The flat on the door handle matches the flat on the latch insert so it can only be installed one way but if it's locked it will cause you some grief in trying to get the thing together. Once it's loosely together it's time to install the set screws. Trying to get these to line up can be a little bit of a pain sometimes. If you have an extra set of hands it's nice if the other person can hold pressure on the other side while you try to find the hole with your set screws. Once you've found the holes snug them up a bit but don't tighten all the way just yet. Once everything turns and opens and closes with no binding and functions as it should, secure the latch mechanism with the provided screws and tighten all the way. Now tighten the door knob set screws all the way. Now it's good to go as long as there is no binding or sticking. If it binds or sticks I have had to back the set screws off a 1/4 turn or so. Repeat the steps for the deadbolt assembly. Don't forget to make sure it is the right side up=). It really won't affect the function of the deadbolt if you have it 180 degrees upside down but the writing will be upside down and the key will go in upside down. I have made this mistake more than once being in a hurry installing these.

DIY Home Brew: Brewers Best Mosaic India Pale Ale Made In Kitchen-Super ...

This was a small batch home brew that I made and it turned out fantastic. The taste test in the video was done on the last half bottle that I bottled. It was so good that I'm saving it for a special occasion. Kind of like a vintage wine that you keep on the shelf. As us home brewers know, the beer does get better the longer it sits in the bottle, to an extent. This one was a home run. It takes a solid month or so to make but it goes by quickly especially if you have other brews that you are making. You won't even notice and it'll be ready before you know it. The mosaic hops that came with this beer kit really set this off. The flavor had depth and was quite moving. I knew it was going to be good once I sampled it off the fermenter just before bottling. It only got better with age and a little more carbonation. So to get started I made a homemade fermenter out of a filtered water bottle and an airlock with bung. I had to cut out a larger hole in the top of the  water bottle in order to make this work. I pulled out all the contents of the Brewers Best Mosaic IPA beer kit. The nice thing about this is that it came with specific easy to follow directions on how to make it. You will need a food thermometer if you are going to make beers like this. They are readily available for cheap so go grab one. Temperature is important when making beer so you need to pay attention to it for favorable consistent results. This whole home brewing thing is a blast and saves you money as well if you like to partake of brews once in awhile. The process is simple, make the wort, add the fermentable, cool it down quickly, siphon into fermenter, add yeast and wait a couple weeks. After a couple weeks it's ready to bottle. When it's bottling time (I just use reusable plastic bottles) then add two carbonation drops to each one and twist the cap on tight then let sit for a minimum of two weeks. The results are outstanding as well as very rewarding.

Kwikset Door Knob and Dead Bolt Installation Instructions

I purchased this new Kwikset Brand Door handle and deadbolt kit from Lowe's for about $40 or so. Got the kit home and started unboxing it and setting my parts out prepping them for installation. I gave it a rough assemble just to see how it is all going to go together so I had an idea of what to expect once I put it in the door. To get the process started for the door handle itself,  I put the latch core inside the door for a test fit. The nice thing is that almost all doors come with standard size pre-drilled and prefabricated holes to accommodate standard door handle kits. The next step was to loosely insert the inside and outside door handles for a rough fit up. Now I inserted the long set screws in through one side and threaded them into the opposite side (inner to outer). I screwed them down snug with a Phillips head screwdriver. Then I slide the decorative collar of that and it just snaps on. After that comes the handle itself. I slid the handle on and tightened it down with an Allen wrench which comes with these types of kwikset kits. I then did the same thing with the other side. For the next step I screwed in the two screws for the latch that secure it to the door. I tested for smooth operations with no binding or sticking.



Deadbolt portion:

I inserted the latch or core of the dead bolt into the door for a test fit. After knowing that it fits well it was time to place both halves of the dead bolt locking assembly into core or latch portion. The somewhat semi circular shaft fits snugly into the latch insert. Once fit up I lined up the set screw holes so they can be seen from the opposite side. Then it was time to insert the set screws and secure them tight. I ensured smooth operation with no sticking or binding. The door is now capable of being fully secured.

How to make a Wine Cork Birdhouse-Tutorial Demonstration

Do you like to drink wine or know someone who does? Don't toss those great wine corks out! You can re-use them for so many things. The fact that most of the wine corks have unique designs and prints on them make them most interesting and colorful when re-purposed into different projects. I started with a couple cut-off scrap piece of cedar fence slats that were ready for the landfill and constructed my rood first just to see how it would go to get an idea for size. Then on a base piece started nailing the base row of wine corks with finishing nails. With no real plan I freestyled some wine corks on top of each other nailing each one down individually to eventually shape a nice little bird house. It was almost like a puzzle because each wine cork has a little bit of a different diameter and length to it. I then cut to 45 degree angle shapes, drilled and then nailed them to the top of the wine cork house base frame. This gives the roof support as well as something to nail it to. Then I drilled and nailed the roof to the triangular pieces. Now it's all ready for use. The use of the repurposed material was great because cedar and wine corks don't readily break down and rot quickly so this thing was built to last a long time out in the wet and cold elements. I placed it out in a field next to my house and eventually a family of birds moved in and called it home so that was rewarding. I placed some bird feed near it as well as time went on to attract them.
